Integrated Production (certified)
An extremely dry year, with rainfall concentrated between December and February. The period from March to August was hotter than average, resulting in an early vintage. With these higher temperatures during the growing season, most grapes were picked in very ripe conditions resulting in rich wines with body and depth.
SOIL TYPE
Deep and dark limestone and clay.
AVERAGE AGE OF VINES
10 years
Temperature controlled fermentation (28ºC) in small stainless steel tanks.
12 months aging in American oak barrels, 12 months bottle ageing before market release. Great ageing potential.
Originating from Vinha das Palmeiras, at Herdade dos Perdigões, where Alicante Bouschet was first planted 10 years ago, this wine is consistently produced.
It is only made in exceptional years and the result of intense experimentation and collaboration between Herdade do Esporão’s winemaking and viticulture teams. This involves the vinification of small blends of the same grape variety from different plots, in which the final goal is to understand and enhance the character of each grape associated with the type of soil and microclimate where it is grown.
The result of these continuous trials is the launch of these unique wines, each variety producing limited quantities.
