According to Sandra Alves, Esporão’s winemaker, “Esporão Colheita expresses the typicality of the harvest year, the diversity and characteristics of the soils where the vines are planted and the character and identity of the grape varieties selected. In 2020, the gradual ripening and harvesting of the different varieties at the optimum point of ripeness, associated with fermentation and ageing on fine lees, in concrete tulips with unique micro-oxygenation conditions, enhanced the intense, direct and vibrant profile of the wine.”
This year’s weather conditions favoured gradual ripening. The harvest started about two weeks earlier than in the previous year, which allowed for the harvest to be made selectively, favouring the expression and quality of each variety. This vintage was produced with Antão Vaz, Viosinho and Alvarinho grape varieties, resulting in a wine with a crystalline appearance and soft green highlights. Citrus and orange blossom aromas predominate, with notes of grapefruit and papaya. On the palate it is intense and balanced, with a vibrant and lingering finish.
