This is not the first time that Esporão wines have been in the spotlight in Asia. In August, wines such as Assobio Red 2014, Monte Velho 2015 and Esporão Reserva won prizes at the China Wine & Spirits Awards in Hong Kong, and at the Japan Wine Challenge in Tokyo.

Now, once again in Hong Kong, it is the turn of Murças Reserva 2011, which received a Platinum medal in the “Best Red Portugal” category (95 points), and Esporão Reserva Red 2013 with Silver (90 points).

This is the fourth year of a competition that has seen a double-digit increase in the number of participants, with growing interest from China, which participated with 205 wines. This blind tasting included a total of 2,850 wines and 40 judges, mostly Asian, who tasted them according to region and style.

Pannelists included names like Li Demei, a world authority on Chinese wine and columnist for DecanterChina, and Japanese professional, Shinya Tasaki, who was previously voted the best sommelier in the world and is currently president of the International Association of Sommeliers.
