“Lisbon” by the lenses of Felipe Oliveira Baptista

It was with enthusiasm that we have seen the birth of a new Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s project. The artist is now part of the ones that conveyed graphically the rhythm of various cities for the book collection Portraits de Villes – ‘City Portraits’.

The book, with the same name as the city that gave it life, was released this month in Paris:

«Lisbon. A city with an unparalleled duality, the capital is rooted between the past and the future while maintaining what Felipe calls “the poetry of Portuguese restraint ”.»

On a journey mainly guided by intuition, he emphasizes the importance of listening to our inner voice during the criative process. Since that for the artist photography serves the memory, that is the primary mean that he uses to keep alive his personal history and that of the compositions that inspire him.

Thus, there are both pictures of the building where he grew up, as of the hurch that terrorized him on his way to the dentist, and of ‘Jardim da Estrela’, that he crossed to get to school. Combining image with text, a poem of Baudelaire and a song of Caetano Veloso, so is the way that he invites us to discover a Lisbon of his, and our own.

Felipe Baptista Oliveira was one of the artists invited to illustrate some of our labels, using photography also to give body to his vision and memories of Alentejo and Herdade do Esporão.
