« Esporão Colheita is more than an objective. It’s the product of ten years’ work and seeks a new agricultural model that offers us the best results. This project was started because of quality issues. We had to figure out how we could progress, and organic farming was the answer.

In addition to work in the field, changes made at the winery were also very important. We chose to vinify the wine in tulip-shaped concrete tanks to produce our top-of-the-range wine, and Colheita comes from discovering that this maturation in concrete tanks was very interesting and different.
This is the first wine that fully reflects the direction that we have started to take with the introduction of an organic agriculture model. This launch marks a turning point – from now on, and as the vineyards receive organic farming certification, the Esporão wines we know, and which have been on the market for years, will also become organic.
It’s very satisfying to see this happen because it’s the realisation of all the work done so far. It’s also confirmation that the organic agricultural model works with the wines we were looking to make: more defined wines that better reflect their place of origin, in this case, Herdade do Esporão. And because of all this, drinking the wine is even more enjoyable.
When we try Colheita, we realise that this is a different wine to those in our portfolio, which made us even more certain we wanted to share it. It is quite unique in terms of the experience and tasting of our wines. It tells the story of Herdade do Esporão. There are aspects reminiscent of the wines we make, such as its aromatic profile, but then you notice the quality of the vineyard from whence it comes and the very clear intention to reflect that vineyard – the lack of oak.
It’s not a complicated wine. It will please the occasional drinker, as well as those looking for something a bit special from an Alentejo wine. Those who know Esporão can go further, making the important connection between the wine and the vineyard. »
