Thanks to the cool temperatures of its micro-climate, Covelinhas has traditionally produced high-quality tawnies. Quintas dos Murças Tawny 10 Anos is a good example of the quality of oak-aged ports, which are both extremely elegant and dense, as well as boasting balanced acidity and fine fruit notes.
This tawny was produced with top-quality grapes (A-grade) harvested at Quinta dos Murças. On the 3rd day of press fermentation, using the traditional pisa a pé process, brandy is added. The blends age in used vats for an average of 10 years and benefit from the natural coolness of the estate’s cellar.
It is an ideal port to serve at the end of a meal and an excellent companion to traditional Portuguese desserts (like creme queimado), cured and semi-cured cheese, or simply with coffee. The ideal service temperature for this wine is 12º/14ºC, it needs no decanting and should be stored in an upright position (not horizontally), as it has already oxidised in the vats before being bottled.
