Because of its age and its various owners, some of whom were rather wealthy, it is no surprise that Quinta dos Murças has buildings of historical value and considerable potential for wine tourism. In addition to the winery and the traditional presses, there is also a 19th-century manor house which was restored both in 1940 and 1980. As well as being a fine example of period architecture, the building also boasts a stunning panoramic view over the River Douro weir and surrounding landscape. It is worth mentioning the Quinta de Vale Figueira ruins, which date back to 1826 and include a number of houses, warehouses, granite presses, a chapel and a walled creek. The historic and tourist interest of Quinta dos Murças is consolidated by the proximity of the Covelinhas railway station, next to which the property’s warehouses and cellars were built, in order to make the loading and unloading of goods easier. Today, Covelinhas station has kept its architectural beauty and the wealth of its heritage intact thanks to the restoration work undertaken by Portuguese railway company Refer. In fact, the station is one of the many tourist attractions on the old Linha do Douro railway line (1887).
